SCHOLARSHIPS

The Prime Time Foundation is looking for qualified applicants for the Prime Time Foundation scholarship. This is a full scholarship to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, or to another university in the US of comparable competitive ranking and price as Louisiana State University.

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

Any full-time resident of the Abacos or Eleuthera, who is a Bahamian citizen and who has graduated from high school or will graduate from high school (Abaco & Eleuthera High Schools only) in the current year is eligible for the Prime Time Foundation scholarship. Click here to read the Scholarship Guidelines.

What criteria are used to select the recipient?

The two most important criteria are scholastic aptitude and financial need. Scholastic aptitude is based upon Grade Point Average (GPA), SAT results and BGCSE results. We also evaluate leadership qualities, character, extracurricular activities, community involvement and work experience.

What BGCSE's are required?

Because your GPA in the Bahamas does not equate to the GPA's in the U.S. many colleges rely on the results of your BGCSE's. Most competitive schools including LSU require 5 academic subjects with grade C or higher for admission. Academic subjects include:

  • Economics
  • Chemistry
  • Geography
  • History
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Combined Science
If you are applying to a school other than LSU, determine which BGCSEs are accepted. If you do not have 5 academic BGCSE's of C or higher, you can attend C.O.B. for one year and transfer to LSU if you maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Other schools may have different requirements.

Where do I take my SAT's?

To qualify for the scholarship, you MUST take the SAT test that is offered two times a year on your island. You can access the schedule and application at www.collegeboard.com, or obtain further information through your school office. Be advised it is in your own best interest to take the SAT twice, once in your sophomore year and again your junior year.

Who chooses the recipient?

The Prime Time Foundation chooses the recipients. Our staff has the knowledge and experience to choose the students who are most likely to succeed.

What does the scholarship include?

The scholarship includes the following:

  • Tuition
  • Campus room (dorm) and board (meal plan)
  • Transportation to and from school each semester
  • Health insurance
Books and monthly expenses are the responsibility of you and your parents.

What school(s) can I apply to?

In the past Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge Campus) was the only school participating with the Prime Time Foundation. The Foundation has decided to open their enrollment practices to include your school of choice, providing the school has the same competitive Ranking as LSU (ranked "very competitive" in Barron's profile of American Colleges), and same cost range. For further details, read "Scholarship Guidelines".

Where do I get the necessary applications?

The Prime Time Foundation application is available from your school office, your District Superintendent's office or by clicking here. Apply first to the Prime Time Foundation and upon verification of eligibility for the scholarship, notify the Foundation of your choice of schools. The Foundation will confirm the status of the school (ranking and cost), and if acceptable will give authorization to the student to apply.

What are the deadlines for the applications?

The Prime Time foundation Application must be submitted to the Prime Time Foundation office by February 1st of each year, although earlier is preferred. This allows the necessary time to process all paperwork for admission for the Fall semester.

What are the criteria for keeping the Prime Time Scholarship

You must maintain a 2.5 GPA as a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours achieved per semester), and remain in good standing with the university.

Once I have received my degree will I have any further obligations to the Prime Time Foundation?

The Prime Time Foundation will ask you to sign a pledge to return to the Bahamas for a period of 5 years after graduation to contribute your skills to the improvement of life in the Bahamas.
